Rules & Criteria
PURPOSE
This educational scholarship award will be presented annually by STLA to honor the memory and dedication of STLA member, Nathaniel Faske, who died in a tragic auto accident in 2017. Even though just a young man himself, Nathaniel had long been a fixture on the youth show circuit working in various capacities at our STLA Shows. He served as a mentor to many of the younger exhibitors, always helping to teach, guide, and assist them with showmanship skills and show procedures, as well as the proper care of their animals. This award is established to help pay tribute to these ideals and to honor other young people who continue this important legacy.
ELIGIBILITY
Any young person between 16-21 years of age, involved with STLA, is eligible to be nominated and selected for this award. The nominee must be a Junior (Youth) member or a Regular member (either Collegiate or Adult), in good standing, of the STLA for the current membership year also have held membership for at least the previous membership-cycle year.
Because of the ongoing involvement and work of our young people with the show circuit during their high-school and early college years, an individual may be nominated for – and also be eligible to receive – this award more than one time. That nominee cannot receive the award on two consecutive years. A recipient will be limited to receiving the Faske Award only two times.
The nominees for this award may also be a current STLA Youth Scholarship applicant or a recipient for the same year, or from a previous year, or also have been an STLA Kimble Scholarship applicant or recipient. Having earned a previous scholarship from our organization or being in the process of application for another award, does not help to qualify, or to disqualify, any individual for this special scholarship. This is a special award, based on nomination only from within the association, to be given in addition to the other STLA Scholarships.
