Our STLA/Dr. Joyce Kimble Scholarship winner for 2020 is an exceptional scholar and an outstanding young lady with a very strong future within her grasp. She carries an extraordinary passion for animals and animal sciences and that love defines her studies and future plans.
At the time of this award, Peyton Anderson is a rising junior at Mississippi State University where she is currently pursuing a double major in Animal & Dairy Sciences and Food, Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion. She maintains a 4.0 GPA for all of her undergrad course work.
Peyton also works to increase her understanding of animal agriculture and animal science through her research as part of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program at MSU. She has been published and had her first abstract selected and presented as part of this year’s Research Symposium in Spring 2020. She also works as a part-time volunteer to assist with animal health services at the West Point Animal Shelter.
This past Spring, this impressive 20-year old student earned an exceptional honor and was accepted into the Oxford Summer Study Abroad Program for Summer 2020 in Oxford, England. (However, with Covid-19 virus travel restrictions in place, this summer study opportunity had to be cancelled with the hope of being accepted once again for 2021.)
Upon completion of her bachelor’s degrees, Peyton plans to attend Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine starting in 2022 to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Due to her high GPA, veterinary experience, research experience, and completed coursework to date, she has also earned Early Entry into the MSU Veterinary Program.
Often described by her professors and advisors as a critical thinker who can easlily comprehend large amounts of scientific information rapidly, she has proven herself in just two years of college to be a top honor student and hard-working researcher. After earning her DVM, Peyton Anderson will be setting her sights to become a forerunner in the animal agriculture industry.
