2019 RECIPIENT
Name: CODY GARCIA
School: TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE STATION
Parents: Rick & Cori Garcia, Hico, Texas
In 2019, the STLA/Dr. Joyce Kimble Scholarship was awarded to two very deserving and hard-working young men in our association.
Our second recipient for 2019 is an exceptional young man from Hico, Texas named Cody Garcia. He is a passionate Longhorn breeder and award-winning showman with a proud future ahead of him.
Already considered an academic junior at Texas A&M after just three semesters, he is top student and also a member of the A&M Corp of Cadets. Cody is pursuing two Bachelor’s Degrees in Agriculture which will come with his graduation in Spring 2021.
Along with his high-level academics, he is also pursuing his military training and has qualified to enter Officer Candidate School during his senior year at Texas A&M. He will graduate as a commissioned officer with the Air Force.
In May 2019, Cody was also selected to have a paid summer internship with the Stiles Farm Texas A&M AgriLife Extension at their 2,800 acres research facility. This extra work will enable him to earn a “minor” in International Agriculture with travel abroad as part of that development program.
Cody’s goals upon completing his undergrad degrees are to contract with the Air Force to become a pilot, then return to school for his Master’s Degree, and eventually work with the USDA Soil Conservation Department.
Cody was also selected as one of our Youth Scholarship Program recipients in 2017.
